✈ Don't Miss These Tips for Surviving Long Haul Flights! ✈

Hi Reader,

Do you have any travel plans for this summer? Let me know where you're headed! I'm planning on staying in Barcelona to make the most of my first summer here in 10 years - and am very happy to have got my air conditioning fixed as we've got a heat wave this week!

I know a lot of you will be jetting off on vacation (or holidays to us Brits) and if you're taking a flight then you will want to be prepared so you feel comfortable and relaxed during the flight.

I've taken a lot of flights over years, from short hops between the UK and Europe to the whopping 16.5 hour long flight to Australia, and these are my absolute must-haves wherever I'm heading!

Long Haul Flight Essentials

Long flights can be tough on your body and mind, but there are some things that can make your journey so much easier - I've written a whole blog post about this, but these are my top 5!

Comfortable Clothes

My long-haul flight outfits definitely prioritise comfort over looks, and I’d advise you to do the same. If you’re going to be sitting in the same position for hours at a time you definitely want to be comfortable!

Bring a change of clothes in your carry-on bag too, in case your luggage gets lost or if your flight is delayed, and comfy layers to cope with temperature changes on the plane and at your destination.

Timeshifter App

If you're crossing several time lines then jet lag can be a b*tch. I used the Timeshifter app to help with my jet lag and it did seem to help me regulate my body clock faster than usual. It uses circadian rhythms to help plan when to have access to bright light and when to sleep in order to best prepare your body for the time change.

In-Flight Entertainment

Make sure you have some TV shows or movies downloaded and ready to watch on your phone and/or laptop. Check they are available offline and remember you’ll need to switch Airplane Mode on for your devices before you take off.

Don't forget to bring your noise-cancelling earphones or earbuds to help to drown out the plane noises around you - and connect those to the in-flight entertainment with an Airfly Bluetooth transmitter!

Earplugs & Eye Mask

I am a light sleeper and can’t do without earplugs on a plane. These little bits of foam help to reduce the noise of plane engines, crying children, rowdy passengers and constant announcements from flight attendants. Make sure you remove them for safety briefings though!

On long flights it's also nice to get some sleep, and an eye mask helps block any unwanted light so you can doze off more easily.

Travel Insurance

Boring I know, but things can and do go wrong when you travel, so consider getting cover for your trip as soon as you have booked your flight, so you are covered right away.

I am very glad I had insurance when my laptop and passport got stolen while I was travelling, and I never leave home without travel insurance!

Travel insurance from providers such as SafetyWing can cover things like trip cancellation and activities as well as emergency medical, lost luggage and more.
